Solomonville, Graham County

Cancelled postal card mailed from Solomonville, Ariz., February 4, 1890. The town was first called Munsonville, when William Munson built an adobe house and store here in 1873. In 1876 Isadore Solomon bought Munson's buildings and added to them. The local mail carrier suggested the name Solomonville and the post office was established on April 10, 1878. Records show "Solomonsville" as the postmaster inserted an "S" in the hand-made cancellation stamps. The post office is now known as Solomon.
