Cancelled postcard mailed from Snowflake, Ariz., August 19, 1906. A transit cancel from Holbrook, Ariz. also appears. James Stinson, a rancher, sold property in July 1878 to William Flake. Erastus Snow and twelve destitute families arrived from a settlement at Taylor which had failed. A town site was surveyed on Flake’s property and the new community took the name Snowflake. The post office was established as Snow Flake, two words, on June 27, 1881, but the name was later changed to the single word, Snowflake, in 1906.
