Cancelled postal stationery entire mailed from Tucson, Ariz., June 23, 1881. Electric streetcars began operating in Tucson on June 1, 1906 as a replacement for the horse and mule drawn streetcars. For over twenty-four years electric streetcars transported Tucsonans through bustling shopping and residential areas. In 1903, a petition to replace the streetcars with buses narrowly passed the Tucson City Council. At 12:00 midnight on December 31, 1930 rail streetcar service was ended.
