Cancelled postal stationery entire mailed from Fort Thomas, Ariz., October 5, 1896. The name Camp Thomas derives from that of Brig. Fen. Lorenzo Thomas. The name was changed to Fort Apache in 1871 and again to Fort Thomas in 1877. When Geronimo surrendered in 1886 that was the beginning of the end of Fort Thomas. It was later abandoned in 1892.
